I started translating in 1999, before most of the internet existed in more than one language. Precision was everything — a misplaced clause in a legal document, a tone-deaf turn of phrase in a marketing brief, and the whole thing falls apart. That discipline never left me.
Photography came later. Where translation demands fidelity to an original, a photograph demands the courage to choose — this angle, this light, this split second and not another. I have spent years trying to express with my camera what words cannot.
